  • We provide structured guidance and support to educators and U.S. schools participating in Department of State–designated J-1 Exchange Visitor Programs. Our goal is to enrich American classrooms and promote cultural understanding while staying fully compliant with U.S. Department of State regulations.

  • J-1 Journey is an independent educational support company. We are not a U.S. Department of State–designated J-1 Sponsor, recruitment agency, placement agency, or employer. We do not recruit, hire, place, or deploy teachers. All sponsorship, hiring, and visa decisions are made solely by authorized Department of State–designated J-1 Sponsors and participating host institutions. Participation in any J-1 program is voluntary and independently pursued.

  • Our founder splits time between the United States and Southeast Asia and has deep connections to the region’s education communities. This gives us access to a talented pool of English-speaking, culturally adaptable teachers who are excited to share their skills and contribute to American classrooms.

  • Processing timelines vary depending on the designated J-1 Sponsor and relevant U.S. authorities. J-1 Journey does not control sponsor review timelines or visa issuance.

    It is recommended that you review all requirements before submitting an application to ensure the required and official documents are submitted correctly, this will help ensure that applications are processed in a timely manner and prevent delay.

  • The J-1 Teacher Exchange Visitor Program is a U.S. Department of State initiative that allows qualified international educators to teach in accredited K-12 schools in the United States for up to five years. The program promotes cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the U.S. and other countries.

  • While J1 Journey does not directly provide housing, we offer guidance and resources to help teachers secure safe and affordable accommodation. We also connect new arrivals with local Filipino and Southeast Asian communities, as well as host schools, to support a smooth and welcoming transition.

  • We provide informational support to U.S. school administrators regarding participation in Department of State–designated J-1 Exchange Visitor Programs. Final selection and hiring decisions are made solely by authorized J-1 Sponsors and host schools.

  • U.S. schools often seek teachers for subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Special Education, English/ESL, and World Languages, but needs can vary by district. Open positions may span elementary, middle, and high school grade levels.

  • Qualified Filipino and Southeast Asian educators with at least two years of full-time teaching experience, a university degree in education or the subject they wish to teach, and proficient English language skills are eligible to apply. Additional requirements may vary depending on the U.S. state and school.

  • Yes, eligible dependents (spouse and unmarried children under 21) may apply for J-2 visas to accompany the J-1 teacher. We provide information and support regarding dependent visas, schooling options for children, and adjustment tips.
